The La Due Ladies Lunch Scholarship Program has awarded over $120,000 to young women in Alberta since its inception. The program offers two distinct categories for promising young women in both High School and those pursuing Post-Secondary education. The applicants of the La Due Ladies Lunch Scholarship Fund are being offered an opportunity to participate in a pool of $15,500 of awards.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

✔ Applicants must be female and a resident of the Province of Alberta
✔ Must be either in High School or enrolled in a Post-Secondary Institution (students who are continuing with upcoming Fall programming only)
✔ Must provide complete application (600-word essay & list of accomplishments)
✔ Must understand and appreciate why the Western Lifestyle/Heritage is important
✔ Exhibit “Cowgirl Spirit” or “Cowgirl Toughness” (see explanation below)
✔ Successful applicants must present proof that scholarship awards will be applied towards educational costs (done in partnership Calgary Stampede Foundation)

Young women in grades 9 through 12 are eligible *Please note: If you have applied for post-secondary education during your grade 12 year but have not received a letter of acceptance please apply for the High School Category. Young women either currently enrolled in their first semester of a post-secondary institution or currently attending a post-secondary institution are eligible

Cowgirl Spirit
The Cowgirl Spirit award is presented to an applicant for her leadership, social responsibility, community involvement and interest in the Western Heritage. Consideration will be placed on the applicant’s ability to share their leadership roles, community involvement, and/or volunteerism in their list of accomplishments; as well as their future goals and aspirations in their essay. In this theme the applicant is not necessarily participating in rodeo sports now. You can be a cowgirl without a horse.

Cowgirl Tough
The Cowgirl Tough award is presented to an applicant for her athletic ability and participation inside the rodeo arena. Consideration will be placed on the applicant’s ability to share their past achievements as a rodeo competitor, (defining moments) in her list of accomplishments, and share their future goals and ambitions as a rodeo competitor in the essay all while maintaining her role as a contributing member of her community. Maybe you are a 4H member, involved in high school rodeo, past or current rodeo queen, or current rodeo competitor

Once you have selected your theme, please answer the following questions within your essays:

"Cowgirl Spirit" Essay
Applications must include a typed essay of not more than 600 words describing your Cowgirl Spirit and what it means to you. Essays in excess of this word count will be disqualified. Your essay should also include the following:

● Define what Cowgirl Spirit means to you and describe what it is like living this lifestyle. Why is it important to you?
● What legacy do you believe Florence La Due left for future generations? How do you relate to her personally?
● Define the word “tenacity”. What does this word mean to you personally?
● Describe a special attribute or accomplishment that makes you the best candidate to receive a La Due Scholarship.
● If selected as a recipient, how will this award help you achieve your goals and aspirations?

"Cowgirl Tough" Essay
Applications must include a typed essay of not more than 600 words describing your Cowgirl Toughness and how it applies to you. Essays in excess of this word count will be disqualified. Your essay should also include the following:

● Define what Cowgirl Spirit means to you and describe what it is like living this lifestyle. Why is it important to you?
● What legacy do you believe Florence La Due left for future generations? How do you relate to her personally?
● Define the word “tenacity”. What does this word mean to you personally?
● Describe a special attribute or accomplishment that makes you the best candidate to receive a La Due Scholarship.
● If selected as a recipient, how will this award help you achieve your goals and aspirations?

Each essay will be evaluated on its own merit; therefore, the essay MUST be ANONYMOUS. Please do not place, sign or mention your name anywhere in the essay. Any direct reference to the applicant’s identity or the identity of parents, siblings, or family name will result in disqualification.

List of Accomplishments

Include a ONE PAGE list of accomplishments that further describes your abilities/volunteering efforts. *Please note: To maintain applicant anonymity, please do not place your name on the list of accomplishments. Also, if you have won an award (ie: Miss Rodeo 2016) please do not list the year.

Report Card / Proof of Enrollment

Report Card – All applicants must include a copy of your most recent report card

Proof of Enrollment – If not already attending a post-secondary institution you must be able to provide proof of enrollment if applying for one of the post-secondary scholarships.

Affirmation / Agreement

Affirmation:
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to agree to the terms of this application.
Applicants under 18 years of age will require a Parent or Guardian to authorize their agreement.

Application must be authorized:
I certify that by selecting "I agree", I authorize the La Due Ladies Lunch Foundation to, if necessary, use my name in various public relations activities, announcements and presentations to promote the La Due Ladies Lunch and their scholarship initiative.
