For Valentine’s day 2017, the Calgary Herald published a great article about Guy Weadick and Flores LaDue.

Excerpt: “When two strong personalities come together, sometimes it works and sometimes it implodes. On very rare occasions, it leads to the creation of something utterly remarkable that is bigger than the individuals involved.

“Such is the case of famed rodeo promoter Guy Weadick and his equally famous wife, champion fancy roper and trick rider Flores LaDue. Their love story began among the rough and tumble Wild West shows that travelled the frontier. But the small-town circuit couldn’t contain their larger-than-life personalities and soon they were headlining around the world.

“Their remarkable ability to play off each other and get the most from their partnership (he was the talker and she was the businesswoman) led to the 1912 creation of Calgary’s most famous and long-lasting tradition — the Stampede.”
